How to Make Tangled Light-Up Lanterns
Flickering paper lanterns floating overhead, a night-time boat ride, flowers braided into her hair, there really isn’t a more romantic scene in Disney’s beloved animated film, Tangled than this. Bring this same dreamy magic to your Tangled-themed party with these enchanting lanterns. Follow this easy, step-by-step guide to make your own Tangled light-up lanterns.
Materials
- Small, battery operated tea light
- 1 or 2 pieces of parchment paper or vellum-like sheets
- Solid colored paper
- Glue stick (preferably white or disappearing purple)
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- Cardboard, plastic lid, or acrylic disc
Step 1:
Cut your parchment paper to the length and width of your choosing so that when the two ends are glued together to make a tube, the lantern is your desired size. My measurements are 8 inches by 5 ½ inches.
Step 2:
Sketch or trace your desired pattern onto the solid colored paper and cut the design out. Make sure the design is a reasonable size to be glued onto the parchment paper. I cut out the Tangled sun pattern and some long designs for the top and bottom of the lantern.
Step 3:
Put glue on the side of your cut out design that you want facing out from the lantern. If you have pencil or pen marks from your sketch on the design like I do, flip it over and glue on the unmarked side. Then, press your design down firmly on the parchment paper, making sure that any small pieces of the design get glued down as well. Anything popping up will not show through the lantern as well.
Step 4:
Glue the 2 shorter edges of the parchment paper together, making sure the design is on the inside of the tube. You may need to use hot glue here as a glue stick might not be strong enough.
Step 5:
Cut out a piece of cardboard slightly bigger than the diameter of the lantern. Or, select a plastic lid or acrylic disc of the right size, if available. Glue the lantern to the base.
Step: 6
Place your battery operated tea light inside the lantern, and enjoy! Turn your room’s lights off to enjoy the full magic of these lanterns.
