Cozy and Spooky Halloween Party Ideas

Halloween Party Jack o' Lantern

Back from trick-or-treating so soon? The classic Halloween tradition of trick-or-treating is a fantastic way to see your neighbors and pretend to be the character of your dreams, all while collecting mounds of sweet treats! But what happens when you get back from trick-or-treating? Are the celebrations over? They don’t have to be! Keep the Halloween fun going with these cozy and spooky Halloween party ideas to get you in the feel of fall! Here’s my step-by-step guide to making yours the Halloween evening to remember!

Step 1: Set the Mood

The first step to creating a cozy fall experience is setting that cozy fall mood. Some great, easy ways to do this are:

Setting out scented candles, sachets, lotions, and wax melts.

Stringing up some colored fairy lights

Decorate with mini pumpkins, gourds, dried corn, fall flowers, etc.

Step 2: Set up a cozy spot. Pillow forts anyone??

After a long day of costumes, makeup, and trick-or-treating, a fluffy pillow fort is just the thing you need to relax. Bring out all of your blankets and pillows to make your childhood dreams come true with the softest pillow fort!

Step 3: Snacks of the Season!

Let’s be honest. A party isn’t a party without food. Even the smallest of get-togethers are often centered around the snacks. This is your chance to whip up all of your favorite fall themed snacks and refreshments to keep your guests in the spooky season mood! Some great options are:

Apple Cider

Hot Chocolate

Candy Corn

Pumpkin Pie

I’d love to hear your go-to Halloween snacks. Comment your favorite spooky autumn delights!

Step 4: Dance Opportunity!

Dance is an essential part of any get-together and celebration, and Halloween is no exception. Challenge your friends to a dance off or work together to choreograph a dance to a classic Halloween song. You’ll get your energy flowing to keep you going through all of your activities! And who doesn’t want to get goofy with some giggle-worthy moves?

Step 5: Festive Activities

The key to any well thought out get-together is an assortment of creative activities for you and your guests to choose from. Stick with some family friendly activities for fall or whip out some spookier activities that are not for the faint of heart. Here’s a list of some great activities to keep you and your guests hauntingly entertained.

Candle Making: Buy a candle making kit at your local craft store or order one from Amazon ahead of time to create some personally scented candles of all shapes and colors! Light these candles all around you to set the mood!

Pumpkin Carving Contests: If you haven’t carved a pumpkin yet, now is your chance! Pass out some mini pumpkins for your guests and carve cute faces, spooky creatures, beautiful patterns, or wonderfully weird creations! Your home will even smell extra pumpkin-y with this activity. Set down some paper to protect your table from the pumpkin pieces that are bound to surround you. Be warned, pumpkin carving can get messy! That’s the fun of it, right?

Spooky Story Challenges: This activity can be as cute or as spooky as you wish! Pass out some paper and pencils to each guest to start. Then, ask everyone to write a sentence or two, or even a paragraph if you want, to start a Halloween-inspired story. When they are ready, ask all guests to pass their papers to the person sitting next to them. Then, have them add to their new paper. Complete one full rotation around the table or go for as long as your guests want. At the end, read aloud the chaotic and creative stories that have come to fruition! This gives your guests an opportunity to get goofy and use their imaginations.

Step 6: Candy sorting

If you went trick-or-treating, chances are you have a bucket, or many bucketfuls, of delicious candy. And, everyone has their favorites. This often leads to trading and candy deal-making to acquire the best candy. A great, simple activity for you and your friends is to take a seat, relax, and sort through your loot!

Step 7: Movie Time!

Finally, it is no question that a spooky season is an important part of any Halloween get-together. After all of the fun of activities and dancing, it’s time to grab your snacks, climb into the fluffy pillow fort in your pajamas, and pick out your favorite Halloween movie. May I suggest The Nightmare Before Christmas..?
